This three-hour training, facilitated by an experienced FASD educator with lived experience and a strong advocacy background, is designed to help foster families better understand FASD and the impacts of prenatal alcohol exposure. The session offers practical strategies and supports that can be implemented to meet the unique needs of children and youth with FASD.
Foster families will benefit from insightful first-hand accounts shared by facilitators with lived experience, who can speak to the realities of raising children with FASD. Topics include working with birth families, advocacy, judgment, and grief and loss.
The goal of this training is to explore how prenatal alcohol exposure influences individuals across their lifespan and to equip foster families with effective support techniques to help children succeed. Participants will receive a complimentary resource booklet—either as a hard copy or a PDF via email—for ongoing learning and additional support. Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with other foster families in the community for continued encouragement and shared experiences. Grounded in compassionate, evidence-based approaches, this training aims to foster understanding, empowerment, and positive outcomes for children with FASD.
